What's the difference between coaching and therapy?

A lot of what therapy focuses on is healing and processing past traumas and challenges. Coaching, on the other hand, focuses on where you are now, where you'd like to go, and how you'd like to get there. Of course, coaching can be healing in its own right, but not for the same reasons as therapy. Coaching is a tool for self-reflection, setting and achieving goals, questioning the unhelpful patterns and habits you might engage in, and taking steps towards living your most authentic life. Coaching is absolutely not therapy and I am not a mental health professional, but coaching could be the right choice for you instead of, or alongside, therapy! 

How often do we meet and how many sessions will we have? 

We'll meet for 60 minutes (or 75 minutes if there are multiple people in the session). We will hold sessions every week or every other week, depending on your goals for our work together. To start, I recommend committing to 10 sessions (minimum) of work together in order to really dig into the process. Many clients choose to continue working past the 10 session mark.  I am not able to do one-off appointments or work with short-term clients. If you feel a one-off session would be best, consider booking a consultation session instead!

What's the difference between consulting and coaching?

Easy! In a consulting space, I show up as an expert, provide best practices, and give advice to make clear improvements to your project. In that case, I am the star of the show! In a coaching space, I show up as a thought-partner and collaborator to help you live authentically and develop a tangible skill-set to get there. In a coaching setting, During a coaching session, YOU are the star of the show!

What will I learn through coaching sessions?

I like to think that at the very least, all of my clients leave our coaching work having developed a stronger sense of self, finding themselves in deeper alignment with their values, needs, and relationships, and feeling fulfilled from the achievement of their goals. Of course, each person has a different experience of meeting these milestones. But, generally, those are my goals for our time together! That being said,  we will spend our sessions working on what you bring to the table, both, in that particular moment and in relation to your long term goals. I feel strongly that a client-driven approach is the most beneficial way to engage in coaching. Therefore, my hope is that you will leave our sessions with whatever skills you wanted to develop, supports you wanted to put in place, and goals you wanted to achieve. 

Can tarot or folk magic be used in my coaching sessions?

Yes!! I see tarot and folk magic as  reflection and connection modalities. I LOVE using them in coaching sessions! If that's not your cup of tea, then we won't do it! The way we construct sessions is 100% your call. When we have our discovery call, you can let me know what feels good to you or not and we'll take it from there!

...you sound kinda niche. Can you swing it in more traditional settings, like an office?

I sure can! I've worked in a variety of settings successfully and thoughtfully, including digital media startups and schools! Because I am client-driven and use educational theory to undergird my work, I am able to adapt information and methods to best fit the needs of my clients or learners. 

How much does a coaching session cost?

Sessions cost about $150-$175, depending on the makeup of the session (individual vs. multiple people). All prices are flexible, with priority given to BIPOC, queer, trans, fat, and femme people. A few times a year, I offer a limited number of pay what you can session packages to make my services as accessible as possible. You can find out more about pricing here!

What does a typical coaching session look like? 

Using an informed and collaborative consent process, we will co-construct our sessions in our very first meeting. This can/will be revisited throughout our time together to help us work in harmony and stay on the same page. Generally, our sessions will begin with a check in of some kind, a reflection on the time past since our last session, deep work on whatever goals we have in front of us, and a closing/action plan moving forward.. What we do in that container is totally up to us (you!). 

Do you see couples/multiple people who are romantically involved?

Absolutely! Couples, polycules, and polyintimate circles are welcome and are, actually, some of my favorite kinds of sessions! Now, whether or not that's the most productive way to hold your sessions (vs. meeting with each person individually) is another story and totally depends on the dynamics and the goals at hand. We can all circle up and after the discovery call, we'll determine a plan that makes the most sense!
